Max will focus on traditional realism in form, carefully observing the live model. His method will be Alla Prima Oil Painting, direct painting, wet on wet, without a preliminary pencil or charcoal drawing. In this workshop, students will paint from life, observing the model carefully, first to block in the larger forms and later to develop the secondary forms. This workshop will concentrate on the relationships of shapes, values and colors in order to describe the special and sculptural forms we are seeing with greater depth. This will enable students to express the gesture and especially the unique character of the individual posing. Rembrandt, Velasquez and Sargent will be a powerful influence in in our workshop. Max will critique each student’s painting daily, give painting from life demonstrations, and talk about contemporary and traditional art in relation to our painting in this workshop.
