The Highline Loft Galley is pleased to announce The Realities of Our Times, an exhibition of major paintings by Max Ginsburg.
The Realities of Our Times features dozens of oil paintings by Max Ginsburg. At 85 years old, Ginsburg has exhibited widely since the 1960’s, but in recent years, he has concentrated his efforts on seeking public venues to show his more profound and controversial paintings.
Ginsburg’s paintings belong to the unique category of Social Realism; they are traditionally painted with exceptional skill and reflect strong social and political views. They are compelling for their impeccable detail, technical expertise, and pointed subject matter. Ginsburg is an artist whose social compassion and understanding are inseparable from his practice as a painter.
The paintings included in the exhibition confront social issues that are contentious and that deal with current life. They are painted masterfully in a traditional realism that communicates Ginsburg’s ideas powerfully and allows viewers to readily engage with the issues they present. These realistic paintings, be they of urban street scenes or military torture, are emotionally engaging and are sure to speak to a wide audience.
Traditional realistic painting is often dismissed in the art world of today. Socially and politically engaged artwork is often given the similar treatment. Ginsburg’s unique combination of the two demands attention. This exhibition invites the community to connect with this type of work that they may not often be exposed to. Ginsburg’s paintings will no doubt spark thoughts and conversations about both their unmistakable artistic merit and the relevant topics they present.
