Chicken Soup, 1979. Oil on canvas, 16 x 20 inches.
Private Collection.

I asked my mother what ingredients she used to make chicken soup. She said, First you wash your hands, before you cook. Then she proceeded to tell me the ingredients. So I gathered these ingredients and arranged them into a composition. Then I painted the chicken first before it began to smell. Then the greens and leafy vegetables before they wilted. Then the earth vegetables and finally the bread, which looks O.K. forever. Well, after all this preparation I did not make the chicken soup. I only painted this still life.
